The Office of Planning and Zoning is responsible for the growth and development of Anne Arundel County in Maryland. It maintains operations through development review, long range planning, transportation planning, cultural resources and zoning divisions. The office additionally operates the Research & GIS Division, which is responsible for monitoring and analyzing growth through its reviewing and planning. The division publishes and distributes copies of plans, ordinances, reports, aerial photographs, maps and digital data. The Office of Planning and Zoning assists citizens to file applications for licenses, permits and subdivisions. The office also assigns street names and addresses, as well as manages planning and development activities. It oversees the Historic and Archaeological Resource Program and Critical Area Program. The office is a part of the government of Anne Arundel County, which also operates police, animal control, fire, election, finance, economic development, public works, social services and recreation departments.
