The Sumter County Sheriffs Office is responsible for all law enforcement activities in the area. The office operates communications, civil, investigations, jail administrator, patrol, logistics and operations divisions. The jail division provides food, clothing, bedding and indoor recreational facilities for inmates. The division organizes recreational, educational and religious programs. Additionally, it offers medical treatment services. The operations division is responsible for answering complaints from the public and verifying and following through with investigations of illegal activities. The division coordinates investigations with other county agencies. The Sumter County Sheriffs Office, located in Americus, Ga., also organizes safety programs for the community.
