Based in Kentucky, The Louisville/Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District was formed to take over the operation and maintenance of Louisvilles combined sanitary and storm sewer system and sanitary-only sewer system in 1946. The organization is responsible for a wastewater collection and treatment network, which continues to expand; comprehensive public storm water drainage system for most of Jefferson County, Ky.; operation and maintenance of the communitys Ohio River flood protection system; Louisville/Jefferson County Information Consortium s computerized mapping and geographic information system; and several other programs, which include stream monitoring and hazardous materials control, designed to protect and enhance the environment.
