The county's Mosquito Control Program routinely inspects nearly 4,000 sites around the county each year. The program's inspectors collect insect larvae, and if they find mosquito larvae, the program's workers use a larvicide that kills the mosquito and black fly larvae at the site, while leaving other life unharmed. In the summer, the program stocks mosquito habitats with a type of fish that feeds on mosquito larvae.
A division of the county government, the Department of Health enforces the laws and regulations governing the county's health. The offices of Addiction Services, the Animal Shelter and Communicable disease, among others fall under its purview. This location also offers food-handling courses for prospective restaurant workers.
