This is the Morris County regional headquarters of the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender, which provides legal representation for adults and juveniles who are charged with criminal offenses and cannot afford to hire their own lawyers. The New Jersey Public Defender is appointed to a five-year term by the Governor, with the approval of the State Senate. Yvonne Smith Segars currently heads the agency, and Deputy Public Defender Dolores D. Mann, heads the Morris County office. Specially trained public defenders are available to represent juveniles, abused and neglected children, parents in Title 30 cases and non-violent drug offenders who qualify for Drug Court.

During a legal career of over 40 years, Peter Gilbreths practice has focused on the criminal justice system. Following an appellate clerkship, Mr. Gilbreth commenced his legal career in 1974 as a Deputy Attorney General with the State of New Jersey. Thereafter he served as an Assistant Prosecutor in both Essex and Morris Counties. In 1982 he began representing clients in all aspects of criminal defense matters. In 1995 Mr. Gilbreth formed his own firm as a sole practitioner at his current address in Morristown, New Jersey. Each clients case is unique and requires an individual approach.
