The Fredericksburg General District Court handles small claims, traffic violations, misdemeanor trials and preliminary hearings for felonies. All civil claims of $4,500 or less are tried before the General District Court, but they can also hear civil claims up to $15,000. It is located in the heart of Fredericksburg's downtown government core, close by to the Post Office, the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, and other government offices.
The Fredericksburg Circuit Court is a tall-spired structure at at 815 Princess Anne. It is the home of the district court, which hears civil matters with claims between $4,500-$15,000, felony trials and divorce proceedings. It is also the court of appeal for the Fredericksburg General Court and the Fredericksburg Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. This building also houses the offices of the Clerk of the Fredericksburg Circuit Court.
This court hears all matters involving those under the age of 18, ranging from juvenile trials to traffic offenses. This court also hears matters relating to child custody, child support, visitation rights and family abuse cases. This court is supported by the Department of Juvenile Justice's 15th District Court Services Unit.
