Founded in 1947, Group Health Cooperative is a consumer-governed, nonprofit health care system that serves more than 500,000 residents in Washington and Idaho. The system offers coordinated care plans for groups and individuals. It operates a wholly owned subsidiary, Group Health Options, which was incorporated in 1990 and provides physician network and point-of-service plans. Group Health Cooperative also manages KPS Health Plans, which is a nonprofit health carrier. The system offers Clear Care, which is a Medicare advantage plan. It provides the State Childrens Health Insurance Plan. The system manages a clinical improvement and prevention department. Group Health Cooperative is a part of Group Health, which operates the Group Health Center for Health Studies and the Group Health Foundation.
