Rhythmix Cultural Works (RCW) opened its doors in 2007. The 501 (c) (3) was established in 1999 as the umbrella for RhythMix world music ensemble and RCW cultural exchange programs. From 1999-2002, RCW coordinated six successful cultural exchange trips to Cuba and Japan. During this same period, the RhythMix ensemble (now Maze Daiko) reached thousands of children through San Francisco Symphony Adventures in Music, Young Audiences and Bread & Roses programs. Inspired by these experiences, Artistic Director-Janet Koike, spent five years renovating an industrial space in Alameda to provide a home for RCW. On June 2, 2007 RCW opened its doors to over 1400 people with a day of free community performances and a gala evening event representing a wealth of diverse artists in the Bay Area. RCW recently celebrated its third year Anniversary with a similar offering of free performances and workshops. Despite a tough economic climate during its first three years of operation, RCW has served more than 20, 000 visitors with culturally mixed presentations of music, dance, theater and classes in our beautifully renovated 175-seat theater, art gallery, and classroom facilities. As nearly half of these visitors come from other parts of the bay area, RCW believes the continued growth of its audience contributes to a positive economic ripple effect on local businesses. RCW productions to date include the Rhythmix World Music Series featuring artists such as Jackeline Rago and the Venezuelan Music Project, Jorge Alabes Samba Rio (Brazilian samba), Ojala (Cuban folkloric music), and Mary Ellen Donald (Arabian percussion). RCW has also presented early and contemporary music with Joan Jeanrenauds "4 Cellos", Ed Holmes in "Subhuman - Tales Beneath the Sea, " Natasha Miller (Jazz), Ducks Breath Mystery Theater and Kodo artists "Hanayui" from Japan. RCW has presented Theater RAB from Germany, Keith Terry & Kenny Endo (Improvisational percussion & Japanese taiko), Shabnam (Bellydance), Tomas Michaud (Flamenco), Bronkars Circus of Sound (Circus Arts), Steve Lucky & the Rhumba Bums (Swing Jazz), Wake the Dead (Celtic), Gamelan Sekar Jaya & Destiny Arts (Gamelan/HipHop collaboration), Moh Alileche (Moroccan Berber), Mano a Mano con Chile (South American) and much more.

In the late '80s, San Clemente's Redevelopment Agency bought the property and subsequently converted it to a cultural center that hosts weddings and other private events, as well as cultural events and fundraisers.
