The Tender Loving Care Academy was founded in 1998 and can be found near the corner of Strawberry Hill Avenue and Colonial Road. The institution accepts children under 5 years old and teaches them motor skills, arts, crafts and science among other things. The facility includes a backyard play area that uses rubber mulch for safety reasons. It also has bicycles and tricycles and other toys for the kids to use.
Founded in 1978, Creative Care Child Center is nursery school for children aged 3-5 with an extended day to accomodate working parents. Creative Care provides a healthy and stimulating environment for its students and offers instruction in subjects, including drama, art, cooking, science and outdoor play. Creative Care is located inside of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, but is not religiously affiliated.
Activities for Kids, located at the Glenbrook Community Center, offers children ages two through 12 various pre-school (Playschool), after-school and summer camp options. Founded in 1983 by executive director Jerry Pia, Activities for Kids provides a safe and nurturing environment where children can learn, engage in various physical activities or find a quiet place to study after school.
The Playschool—for children ages two through five—offers classes from 9am - noon or from noon - 3pm. Summer sessions are also available for those enrolled. The after-school program for children ages five through 12 is from 2:30pm until 5:30pm with extended hours until 6pm. Summer camp for children in this age group is also available from 8:30am to 5:30pm.
Transportation is provided for those who need it from schools in the area. Activities for Kids also offers additional holiday and vacation programs to further accommodate working parents.
Founded in 1975, Noah's Ark Nursery School provides half-day preschool classes for three- and four-year-olds in a Christ-centered environment. Located inside Zion Lutheran Church, Noah's Ark students are exposed to reading, art and math, as well as parables from the Bible. The students spend time in the chapel each month with Pastor Joan Breckenridge.
Three-year-olds can attend the Monday, Wednesday and Friday session or the Tuesday and Thursday session from 9am to noon. Four-year-olds attend every weekday at the same time. The school features three classrooms, a playroom and an outdoor playground. Students also have access to the gym and chapel for special events.
Mark of Excellence Preschool predisposes children to the school atmosphere at a young age and is one of the finer day care centers in the city. Located in the back of Faith Tabernacle Baptist Church on Grove Street between East Main and Forest Streets, this academy focuses on a religious approach to rearing kids while showing love and care for them as they develop.
The Academy has a professional staff and facilities that include multiple classrooms, church services and an outside playground. Mark of Excellence accepts youngsters from ages three to five and usually has no more than 40 students attending at one time. Call to make an appointment or for more information.
