New York League for Early Learning provides various programs to meet the educational, social and emotional needs of disabled children between the ages of birth and 5 years. Through its various center- and home-based programs, the agency serves more than 1,400 children daily throughout the New York metropolitan area. It focuses on the development of children with developmental disabilities and delays; children with pervasive developmental disabilities disorder and autism; and mental retardation and physical impairments. Its programs are designed to help special needs children maximize their potential and function in the least restrictive educational environment. Each child it serves receives educational and therapeutic services jointly decided upon by the family, school district or the Department of Health and the New York League for Early Learning. In addition, it provides parent training and education programs and trains other schools and school districts in the methods for educating special needs children. It is a network agency of the YAI/National Institute for People with Disabilities Network, which has been providing services, education and training in the field of developmental and learning disabilities since its inception in 1957.
