In 1970, Earl and Mary Redner bought two small supermarkets near Reading, Pa., and started the first chain of employee-owned supermarkets in Pennsylvania. The stores were operated as IGA Food Stores franchises until 1979, when the company began operating its stores under the name Redners Markets. Redners Warehouse Markets is a branch of the chain, which operates throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland and New York. The company was one of the first supermarkets in Pennsylvania to have electronic scanners, a recycling program and in-store pharmacies. It operates more than 40 warehouse markets and offers a range of food and nonfood items. Its range of products includes bakery, dairy, deli products, floral goods and frozen foods. Its stores offer various grocery and meat products, with additional products including health and beauty aids, natural and organic goods, seafood and general merchandise. The store s deli department provides a salad bar and variety of appetizers and entrees for various occasions, including office parties, business meetings, picnics, family events and holiday gatherings.
