Dr. Benza is an internationally renowned clinician and research scientist in heart failure, cardiac transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, and pulmonary hypertension. He has helped develop a new risk algorithm for pulmonary hypertension that has modified the nation’s lung allocation process to ensure a fairer distribution of donor lungs for patients with end-stage pulmonary diseases. Dr. Benza was named Physician of the Year by the Pulmonary Hypertension Association in 2013 and has served on multiple boards, committees, and councils related to his work on pulmonary vascular diseases. Dr. Pogozelski earned his medical degree from the Duke University School of Medicine (Durham, North Carolina), where he served as president of his class and received a prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellowship. He entered an accelerated program that combined internal medicine residency and cardiology training at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He completed his cardiology fellowship training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center prior to completing an additional fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology. Dr. Pogozelski also received one of fourteen National American Heart Association Fellow-to-Faculty Transition Awards for his research on pulmonary hypertension while there. Dr. Pogozelski is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiovascular Disease and in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology. He has additional board certifications in internal medicine, nuclear cardiology, and echocardiography. He is a member of the American Heart Association, American College of Cardiology, and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. He joined Allegheny Health Network (AHN) in 2014 as an assistant professor of medicine within the division of Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology. In 2016, Dr. Pogozelski was listed in Pittsburgh Magazine’s “40 Under 40” as one of the most influential Pittsburghers under the age of 40. The Pennsylvania Medical Society chose him as one of the top physicians in Pennsylvania under the age of 40 the following year. He currently divides his time between Allegheny General Hospital and Forbes Hospital, where he serves as the lead physician for the Heart Failure and Pulmonary Hypertension Program.

Human Motion Center, located in Pittsburgh, is a medical facility offering a comprehensive continuum of care options within a health care network. A Pittsburgh native, Dr. Alpert earned his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, and completed his internal medicine residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He completed both his general cardiology fellowship and subspecialty training in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation at the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor, where he also served as chief fellow. During his training, Dr. Alpert authored more than 20 abstracts and publications with a particular focus on symptom burden in heart failure. He organized two education-themed national meetings for the American College of Cardiology (ACC), was the principal investigator for a grant from the University of Michigan’s Department of Graduate Medical Education, and served as a consultant for the ACC’s Advance Care Planning smartphone app. Dr. Alpert is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He is also a member of the Heart Failure Society of America and the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. He is fluent in Russian.
