Hospitalist Jaswinder Singh, MD is Board Certified in Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology. He sees patients at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio and is part of Methodist Physicians | Neurology Specialists. As a child born into a family with a history of Parkinson’s disease, Dr. Singh developed an early passion for neurology. Compelled to consider a career in medicine, Dr. Singh was intrigued by the challenges associated with diagnosing neurological conditions. “It’s a field where you can visualize what a patient is saying. Sometimes it’s challenging to figure out what’s happening. We rely on thorough examinations and histories—the art of listening,” says Dr. Singh. Today, exceptional clinical skills like conducting neurologic examinations, taking a detailed history and offering extensive bedside counselling—all with a strong foundation of medical ethics—form the basis of Dr. Singh’s practice. Dr. Singh completed his medical degree at Bangalore Medical College in Bangalore, India. After practicing in India for five years, Dr. Singh began a Master of Science degree in healthcare administration at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He relocated a year later to undertake a research project in Parkinson’s disease (his primary passion) at Edward Hines, Jr Veterans Affairs Hospital in Hines, Illinois. He subsequently completed a residency in neurology at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois followed by a fellowship in neurophysiology (focused on epilepsy—his other passion). Prior to joining the Neurohospitalist program at Methodist Hospital, Dr. Singh was in group practice in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He is a member of a number of professional organizations including the American Association of Neurology, American Association of Epilepsy and American Medical Association.

Adam Blanchette, MD, is Board Certified Neurology, a Neurohospitalist and the Methodist Hospital Stroke Program Medical Director in San Antonio. As an undergraduate studying exercise science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Dr. Blanchette expected to pursue a career in kinesiology and possibly become an athletic trainer. But the further he progressed into his studies, the greater his fascination became with how the body’s nervous system controlled muscles. His fascination drove him to conduct research in the field and obtain a Master of Arts degree in neurobiology from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where he fully expected to also complete a doctorate—until stroke patients he encountered during his studies changed the trajectory of his career path. Dr. Blanchette obtained a medical degree from University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and completed his residency in neurology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas where his exposure to patients with acute neurologic conditions built the foundation of his passion for inpatient neurology. After completing his residency, Dr. Blanchette practiced both inpatient and outpatient neurology until he was called to develop a stroke program at Methodist Hospital in 2009 where he remains the medical director. Dr. Blanchette is also a member of Stroke Committee for the South Texas Regional Advisory Council (STRAC) and devotes a significant amount of his time providing education and outreach to improve stroke awareness and access to prompt treatment. Aamir Siddiqui, MD, is a Neurohospitalist for Neurology Specialists, practicing at Methodist Hospital | Metropolitan in San Antonio. The idea of becoming a physician was imprinted on Neurohospitalist Dr. Aamir Siddiqi early in life. “My grandfather would tell me about how, in this profession, as you grow old and collect experience, you become even more valuable, which isn’t always the case in other fields,” says Dr. Siddiqi. While he originally considered other specialties, Dr. Siddiqi was drawn to the challenging and dynamic field of neurology. “There were exciting new treatment discoveries in neurology and with the aging population I knew there would always be a demand for neurologists,” he says. After completing his undergrad, medical school and internship in Pakistan, Dr. Siddiqi came to the United States where he completed an externship with the Department of Infectious Disease at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, followed by an internship in internal medicine at the University of Pittsburg Shadyside in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Prabhdeep Singh, MD is Board Certified in Neurology, Sleep Medicine and Clinical Neurophysiology. He is a Hospitalist at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. Born into a family of physicians, it was natural for Neurologist Dr. Prabhdeep Singh to follow in their footsteps and pursue a career in medicine. After completing his medical degree in India and working as a general practitioner there for two years, Dr. Singh followed his brother, a nephrologist, to the United States. He started residency in internal medicine at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut. But he discovered his passion for neurology one day when he encountered a hospitalized patient being treated acutely for stroke with the (new at the time) clot-buster drug tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA. “The patient presented with right-side weakness, was barely able to talk and 48 hours later he was almost back to normal!” says Dr. Singh. He then completed a residency in neurology, served as chief resident at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston (UTMB), Texas, and never looked back. Dr. Singh then began a fellowship in epilepsy and served as an instructor in neurology at UTMB until Hurricane Ike devastated Galveston and the epilepsy program at UTMB was suspended. He continued to work there for four years as an assistant professor, however, and got board certification in sleep medicine during that time while holding a joint faculty appointment in the Neurology and Pulmonary Departments. He also served for three years as the medical director for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Hospital and Clinics for UTMB in Galveston. In 2013, Dr. Singh reentered training and completed a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). Given the option of remaining at UTHSCSA to follow an academic path or joining Methodist Hospital as a neurohospitalist, Dr. Singh chose the latter: “I loved the diversity of patients at Methodist Hospital, the different challenges, the cases that were not only difficult to diagnose, but also intriguing and at times challenging to manage. And the resources like neurosurgery, hematology/oncology and cardiology that are available for our patients are excellent, here, too.” says Dr. Singh. Dr. Singh is a member of the Texas Neurological Society and the American Academy of Neurology.
