Dr. Pan specializes in the care and treatment of children with rheumatic diseases including juvenile idiopathic arthritis, juvenile dermatomyositis, childhood systemic lupus and vasculitides of childhood. Dr. Pan received her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and completed her residency in Pediatrics at NewYork Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Pan then completed her fellowship in Pediatric Rheumatology at Hospital for Special Surgery. During her fellowship, Dr. Pan pursued clinical and translational research identifying biomarkers for flares in lupus as a part of the Mary Kirkland Center for Lupus Care. She worked towards that goal, finishing her internal medicine residency at the University of Connecticut and her rheumatology fellowship at the University of Massachusetts. Before moving to New York City, she spent seven years in private practice in Rhode Island with a focus on rheumatoid arthritis, seronegative spondyloarthritides, gout and osteoarthritis. Dr. Jane Salmon is the Collette Kean Research Professor at Hospital for Special Surgery. She is Professor of Medicine and Professor of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs at Weill Cornell College of Medicine. Dr. Salmon graduated magna cum laude from New York University and earned a medical degree in 1978 from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, where she was the first woman enrolled in their Medical Scientist Training Program. About Sergio Schwartzman, MD Sergio Schwartzman, MD, is a world-renowned rheumatologist who brings more than 30 years of experience to his practice in the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City. Dr. Schwartzman is the emeritus Franchellie M. Cadwell chair associate professor of clinical medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University in New York City, and the associate attending physician at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Dr. Schwartzman attended the State University of New York at Binghamton where he earned a  bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a bachelor’s degree in Spanish literature. After graduating in 1978, Dr. Schwartzman attended the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City where he earned his medical degree in 1982.  In 1985, he completed a three-year internship and two residencies at Long Island Jewish Hillside Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York. In 1987, Dr. Schwartzman completed a fellowship in rheumatic diseases at the New York Hospital and the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Dr. Schwartzman has authored, co-authored, and edited over 120 papers, abstracts, books and book chapters on topics including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, axial spondyloarthritis, lupus, autoimmune eye disorders, Whipple’s disease, and other rheumatological and autoimmune system conditions.  He is a member of the American College of Rheumatology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, the Spondyloarthritis Research and Treatment Network (SPARTAN), the American Uveitis Society, and the Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis (GRAPPA). He is also on the medical board of the National Psoriasis Foundation Board and the Scientific Advisory Board of Crescendo Bioscience. Dr. Schwartzman has received several awards during his distinguished career. These have included: Phi Beta Kappa, C. Max Hull Award in Organic Chemistry,  National Institute of Health National Research, New York Arthritis Foundation Fellowship Grant, New York Arthritis Foundation Research Grant, Northeast Regional American Rheumatism, Association Fellows Award.  He is the recipient of the Franchellie M. Cadwell chair at the Hospital for Special Surgery.                                         Dr. Schwartzman has provided clinical care in rheumatology for over three decades, and has had a full-time affiliation with the Hospital for Special Surgery for nearly 35 years. He holds a leadership position on scientific and medical boards in rheumatology, and plays a vital role in educating medical students, residents, fellows, and peers in rheumatology. From a consulting perspective, Dr. Schwartzman has been involved in the development and implementation of new innovative therapies for the management of rheumatic diseases.
