Dr. J. Joy Lee grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana, and attended Yale University, where she majored in History of Art while completing her pre-medical studies. After graduation, she took one year off to do community health and environmental volunteer work in Tamil Nadu, India. Dr. Lee then moved to Seattle to do an advanced robotics fellowship with Dr. Jim Porter, and has joined Swedish Urology Group as its newest member. Dr. Lees clinical focus is minimally invasive urologic oncology, including da Vinci robotic surgery and focal therapy. As a resident, she received both regional and national awards for her research in prostate cancer outcomes and epidemiology, and has published numerous articles and chapters on urologic oncology and robotic surgery. She feels that open, honest communication is fundamental to the patient-doctor relationship, and hopes to empower her patients in a shared decision-making model of care.In her spare time, Dr. Lee and her husband have enjoyed exploring the Pacific Northwest and spending as much time outdoors as possible, whether crabbing or snowboarding or hiking. Both avid travelers and budding mountaineers, they have climbed Mt. Rainier, gone trekking in the Himalaya, and recently returned from a trip to the Alaska Range.
