The Utah Shakespearean Festival was founded in 1961 and presented its first season in 1962. In its 45th year, the festival is one of the oldest and largest Shakespearean festivals in North America. It is located in Cedar City, Utah and is close to seven national parks and numerous national and state forests, monuments and recreation areas. The Utah Shakespearean Festival has two world-renowned theatres, Adams Shakespearean Theatre and Randall L. Jones Theatre and is a charter member of the Shakespeare Theatre Association of America and Theatre Communications Group. The festival operates under an agreement between the League of Resident Theatres and Actors Equity Association. The educational programs for the Utah Shakespearean Festival include a variety of classes including week-long camps as well as two-day courses and are sponsored in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, Washington, D.C.
