About 35 years ago, a group of teachers at Ohlone determined that there must be a better way to educate 20th century students. The result is a program of developmentally-based education, which includes Ohlone Farm, a place where children can learn firsthand about nature and science. In addition to core classes, Ohlone offers a Mandarin Chinese Dual Immersion Program.
Interested parents must attend an informational meeting, usually held in January.

Hoover offers a more structured alternative to the standard elementary curriculum found in other PAUSD schools. Emphasizing basic academic skills and good study habits, Hoover aims to instill a sense of responsibility, confidence, pride in accomplishment, and a positive self-image in its students. One distinguishing characteristic of Hoover is the strictly enforced behavioral environment, which is kept quiet and orderly. The school also assigns homework for K-5 students.
