The Fairfield County Chinese Community Church, or “FCCCC," meets in Hope Church at 240 Wolfpit Rd. Run by a group of seven deacons (six of Chinese descent) the FCCCC makes some accommodations for English-speakers, but is primarily for Chinese-speaking Christians.  The FCCCC’s interpretation of Christianity is detailed in its “Statement of Faith” outlined on its Web site, listed above.

The Religious Society of Friends in Wilton runs a newsletter, a grade school (Connecticut Friends School), and a nursery school (Helen Gander Friends Nursery School), but this is one Christian organization where you won't find a chief administrator, an appointed preacher, or even an actual church.

This is because the Religious Society of Friends considers music, elaborate churches, and other characteristics traditionally associated with Christian worship to be distractions. Eschewing a church, the congregation gathers in a simple meeting house on New Canaan Road. Members of the society worship by gathering in meetings and sitting in silence until God's message finds them.

Any member may share God's message whenever he or she feels it is His will; this eliminates the need for preachers and appointed deacons, since the Friends consider us all equal in God's eyes, making every member of the society a potential preacher. Some are so awe-struck by God's message that they shake with joy, lending them the nickname "Quakers."

Founded by George Fox in 17th Century England, the Society of Friends is a religious movement based on equality and a resulting lack of hierarchy and institutionalism. Simplicity, peace, integrity, community, and equality are the society's core values.

The Meeting House, located at 317 New Canaan Rd., can be reached at 203-762-5669.
