The museum houses about 1.5 million works and is known for its collections of Egyptian antiquities and of American art, which starts in the Colonial period. The Memorial Sculpture Garden features salvaged architectural pieces from around NYC. There is also an entire center devoted to feminist art.

Brooklyn Museum stays open late till 11 p.m. on the first Saturdays of every month with free admission from 5 to 11 p.m. This is great for night owls, but is also a very busy time for the museum. If you'd prefer a quieter visit, consider visiting Brooklyn Museum on Wednesdays and Thursdays anywhere from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The first Saturday of every month is also known as Target Saturdays when free admission from 5 to 11 p.m. is accompanied by free arts and entertainment programs. The American Art collection features a famous portrait of George Washington by Gilbert Stuart, and Edward Hick's The Peaceable Kingdom.

Just take the 2 or 3 trains to Eastern Parkway/Brooklyn Museum station. There are also plenty of bike racks in the parking lot next to the Sculpture Garden.

Food at Brooklyn Museum
Brooklyn Museum has a Michelin-starred restaurant called Saul and a cafe called The Counter, both on the first floor. Saul offers lunch, brunch and dinner with entree prices ranging from $15-40. The Counter is a bit more affordable, offering sandwiches, salads and sweets from $10-20.
