About Griggstown In 1975, George Rude began raising a handful of quail on two acres of a farm located in the historic village of Griggstown in Princeton, N.J. At that time the property was owned by Peter Josten. By the time George Rude purchased the land from Josten in 1992, the Griggstown Quail Farm had grown to over 65 acres raising pheasants, quail, chickens and, when in season, Mallard and Muscovy ducks, turkeys, and partridge. All the birds were all natural (free of growth hormones and antibiotics) and cage free without overcrowding, a standard George Rude keeps to this day.The farm is proud to raise all natural free range heritage breed turkeys, which are the closest breed to the turkeys that the Pilgrims ate. We also raise free range traditional white turkeys and free range pheasants, which are available in the store from October until March. We sell most of the turkeys during Thanksgiving; make sure to place your order early since we sell out each year! The farm houses a USDA processing plant which processes poultry five days a week. Deliveries to distributors and restaurants are made everyday. The farm sits just off Bunkerhill Road in Griggstown and passers by often see horses peacefully grazing in the fields of the Griggstown Farm.A Bit of History The Griggstown Farm Market is located on the Farm. We opened in 2002 in order to make our natural farm-raised poultry and game available to local consumers. For the first time since George Rude started the farm in 1975, we started selling fresh and frozen poultry along with select produce grown on the Farm. In 2004, we added a USDA-certified kitchen area which made it possible for us to offer high-quality prepared foods in the market, including roasted chickens and farm fresh pot pies, the Market?s biggest sellers. The Market Today:Today the Griggstown Farm Market sells many items including seasonal Fruit pies, Chicken, Turkey, Beef, and Vegetarian Pot Pies, Shepherd?s Pie, Poultry Sausages, and fresh seasonal Soups, Chili, and Sauces. All of these products are prepared in our USDA kitchen at the Farm. Specialty items can also be found in the Market along with fresh poultry, game and quail eggs direct from the Farm. In addition to the Market?s year-round products, extensive Thanksgiving and holiday menus are offered to complement the Farm-raised turkeys sold during November & December. These menus are available seasonally in the Market and on the website and all products can be ordered by phone or in person. The Market also offers fruit pies and pot pies at wholesale pricing to non-profit organizations such as schools, churches, athletic teams, and other organizations for their fundraising efforts.

Heaven Hill Farm has come a long way since it was first established in 1982 as a roadside fruit and vegetable stand in Vernon, NJ. Nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains, the 365 acre farm was purchased in 1961 by the Theobald family from John Fox a local cattle farmer. The Theobalds raised beef cows into the late 1970s, at which time they sold off the cattle as the beef business had become unsustainable. Following in his parents farming footsteps, Martin Theobald began growing produce and in 1982, he set up a roadside tent where he sold his harvest. Through the years, as the business grew, Theobald purchased an additional 7 acres adjacent to the family farm where he erected a greenhouse and the barn which began Heaven Hill Farm. As demand grew for farm fresh produce, flowers and plants, more greenhouses were added for the retail production. In 2001, the Theobald family sold 265 acres of the family farm to the State of New Jersey for the Green Acres Project. Martin purchased the remaining 100 acres including the original farm house, barns and outbuildings. Today, Heaven Hill Farm boasts 10, 000 sq. ft. of retail greenhouse space, 100 acres of farm land and 6, 500 sq. ft. of retail space. The market is now a full service garden center offering annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, local produce, baked goods, ice cream, sheds, giftware, grills, outdoor furniture and accessories, fountains, statuary, pots, arbors, trellises and a variety of unique country-style wares, too numerous to mention.

About Maugeri Farms In 1922 Salvatore "Sam" Maugeri came to America along with his wife Alfia from Catania, Sicily. Others from their homeland had settled in the Swedesboro\Woolwich Twp. area. They worked long hours in the summers picking crops in the fields as farm laborers, eventually becoming sharecroppers with another established farmer. Finally, they had saved enough money to buy their own farm and in 1928 they settled on a beautiful farm nestled on the banks of the Oldmans Creek and Maugeri Farms was born. Salvatore farmed successfully for many years and his son Joe took over the operation. With the help of his wife, Anna, Joe built a prosperous business, purchasing another farm on Oldmans Creek Road where he and Anna lived, worked, and raised their family. The new location became the main center of farming operations. Other land was leased for additional production. Eventually, the torch was passed and the next generation took over. Today, Maugeri Farms LLC is run by Sam and Joe Jr. These third generation growers have taken the operation to new heights. The Maugeri brothers cultivate over 600 acres in and around the Oldmans Creek area. They continue to sell their produce to wholesale distributors and markets, as well as supplying many of the roadside markets from Pennsylvania, to the Jersey Shore, to far North Jersey. The rich soils of the Oldmans Creek basin have long been known for producing the sweetest and most flavorful produce in the area.
