The DeSoto Police Department has more than 60 sworn officers and over 30 civilian employees. It is approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. The department has animal control, criminal investigations, patrol, code enforcement and records divisions. The DeSoto Police Department operates various specialized units, including a bike petrol, honor guard team, and narcotics and traffic divisions. In addition, it supports various crime prevention programs, including educational sessions on stranger awareness and sexual harassment, assault and rape prevention. The department also operates a Special Weapons and Tactics team trained in special operations, including marksmanship, team tactics and breaching techniques.
