It all began back in 1988. LTC Robert Oldmixon retired from active duty at Fort Lee, Virginia and opened a small shop in the PX there called Appomattox Gallery. In the begriming the business was dedicated to picture framing and a few award plaques. In 1990 we made out first challenge coin for the Fort Lee NCO academy as well as the 240th and 54th Quartermaster company at Fort Lee. In 1994, we opened our second store, The Award Shop in Colonial Heights, Virginia, just outside Fort Lee. Shortly after opening this location we moved into our current location on the Boulevard (US Route 1) in Colonial Heights. We have approximately 6, 000 sq. feet of space including our showroom and production areas.. Now, with room to grow, we have branched off into many areas of business. From trophies and plaques to medals, challenge coins and custom framed awards. We also offer screen printing, vinyl banners, embroidery, laser engraving, sublimation as well as custom medals made in-house. We have grown substantially with our wide variety of products and capabilities. Our company began helping our online customers to design and manufacture custom military challenge coins in 1988 with our website military-coins.com. In 1990 we created Richmond Designs as an online division of our company specifically to help our custom challenge coin customers. With our own Internet sales department, we are able to focus on customer military challenge coins and strive to provide excellent service, quality and low prices to our military customers. Since then we have produced coins for the United States Army, Navy, Air Force Marines, Coast Guard as well as many other military and government organizations. It has not stopped there. Over the years we have increased our product selection to include and custom key chains. We actually make many more items than we display on our website but we decided to focus on a select few items that we can offer our online customers and add more products later on. We are often asked "What makes us different from the other guy?" Simple - Hands down there is no other company out there like us.
