STEP, also known as Support to Eliminate Poverty, is a nonprofit community action agency that serves low-income families and individuals throughout the United States. Founded in 1966, the organization offers a variety of community welfare programs for children, adults and senior citizens. With annual budget of more than $2 million, it serves over 1,500 individuals. STEP offers a range of housing and weatherization programs that include heating systems and leaky duct work repair and air infiltration reduction services. The organization also provides installation services for attic and sidewall insulation systems. It additionally offers educational, food and social growth services for young children. STEP also provides various community-based programs that address problems related to unequal access to higher education by low-income and potential first generation college students.
