The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities is a regulatory authority that regulates critical services, such as natural gas, electricity, water, telecommunication and cable television. The authority addresses the issues of consumer protection and energy reform, as well as the deregulation of energy and restructuring of utility rates. It is responsible for responding to residential and commercial consumer complaints. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities manages a financial audit bureau that reviews the accounting and financial history of utilities. The authority handles verbal and written disputes, interviews and information inquiries. Its Division of Reliability and Security is responsible for implementing ongoing strategies for utility disaster preparedness. In addition, the authority oversees the regulation of more than 75 investor owned water and wastewater companies. The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities administers the New Jersey Clean Energy Program.
