Empire Hose is part of the Merrick Fire Department, consisting of two engines. The front of the firehouse was redone in 1994. Located across from Merrick Library, Empire features a program for juniors, ages 13-18, who have an interest in firefighting. Juniors train in basic firefighting techniques, work in the community, and go on informative field trips. Stop by the house Thursday nights after 7:30 p.m.
The Halesite Volunteer Fire Department is located in Suffolk County. The department is 100 percent volunteer, consisting of more than 70 members and has proudly served the Halesite and surrounding community since 1901.
When fire, disaster or medical emergency strikes, you take it for granted that your call for help will be answered. And it will be … but only because there are volunteers who willingly contribute their time and energy to keeping the Halesite community safe.
Volunteering can benefit you in many ways. You will earn respect from everyone who learns you are a volunteer. You will gain immense pride from your accomplishments and the knowledge and skills you acquire from your training. Some of the strongest social ties you will ever make will be with your brother and sister volunteers. And, of course, there is little that can compare to the satisfaction that comes from doing an important job well while contributing to the security and welfare of your community.
The Blue Point Fire Department, which was founded in 1890, is a volunteer-run organization. Volunteers must complete training classes offered by the Suffolk County Firefighters Training Academy, and the 80 volunteers who make up the department must also pass a written exam and obtain a Firefighter 1 certificate. The department, located across the street from Blue Point Elementary School and adjacent to Bayport-Blue Point Library, is organized with three companies: Hose Company, Engine Company and Hook and Ladder Company. BPFD also has a Fire Police Squad.
The Farmingville Fire Department is a volunteer fire department that protects the hamlet of Farmingville. It has an engine, ladder and rescue company, as well as two fire stations, headquarters and a sub-station.
For more than fifty years, members of the Eaton's Neck Fire Department have provided the best level of service, security & safety to the residents of Eaton's Neck. The fire department is made up of volunteers devoted to protecting the community through hours of training. Eaton's Neck Fire Department's first volunteer was Charles Shoreys, a former member of the New York City Fire Auxiliary Corps.
The Rye Fire Department consists of volunteer and paid firefighters. There are four fire companies within the department: Poningoe Hook and Ladder, Poningoe Engine and Hose, Milton Point Engine and Hose, and the Rye Fire Police Patrol. The Poningoe Hook and Ladder Company and Poningoe Engine and Hose Company are at Rye Fire Headquarters on 15 Locust Ave. The Milton Point Engine and Hose and the Rye Fire Police Patrol are located at the Milton Point Firehouse at 560 Milton Rd.
The Blauvelt Volunteer Fire Company is led by Chief Dave Schnitzer. It provides emergency fire suppression and other emergency services for the community. It also houses a hall, which is available for rental.
