George E. Haskell and William W. Bosworth founded Meadow Gold in 1894. The men lost their jobs with the bankrupt Fremont Butter and Egg Company during the silver panic of 1893. Starting out on their own the next year, they formed the partnership firm of Haskell and Bosworth with headquarters in Beatrice, Neb. Initially, the firm purchased butter, eggs, poultry and produce from local farmers for resale to manufacturers and distributors. Meadow Gold offers milk products, cultured products, frozen novelties, sherbet and fruit drinks. In 1997, the Southern Food Group headquartered in Dallas, acquired Meadow Gold Dairies. Southern Food Group manufactures dairy products for the Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi markets. Meadow Gold has locations in Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Utah as well as Honolulu, Hawaii.
