Established in 1986, to provide supplemental nutrition and hunger relief to impoverished individuals and families in Northern Arizona, Northern Arizona Food Bank is based in Flagstaff, Ariz. It also transports and distributes food for other Arizona food banks, soup kitchens, pantries, chapter houses, senior centers, schools, churches, outreach projects and womens shelters. Northern Arizona Food Bank assists community recreational and cultural activities, such as the Flagstaff special Olympics and national youth sports program. St. Mary s/Westside Food Bank Alliance serves 13 of Arizona s 15 counties. It is a member of America s Second Harvest, a United States network of food banks. The food bank was formed with the merging of St. Mary s and Westside Food Banks in 2001. As one organization, the food bank is working to get more food to more people through its 900-partner agency sites throughout the state of Arizona. Volunteers donated more than 300,000 hours of their time in one year so the food banks could distribute enough food for 221,000 meals every day.
