This is achieved through a holistic, culturally competent and family-based approach. The coalition began as a subcommittee of the Committee for Hispanic Children and Families in 1986. It consisted of a group of child welfare professionals who were concerned about the status of child welfare services to Latino children and families in New York. In 1989, the Coalition for Hispanic Family Services was established as a nonprofit organization in the state of New York.
