St. James Healthcare has played an important role in the history of Butte. Founded in 1881 by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, St. James has been known for generations for its mission of compassionate care and service to the poor. For 130 years, St. James has provided care for the sick and served the poor. Today, that commitment is accompanied by St. James reputation as a technological leader in Montanas health care industry. A Catholic hospital, St. James Healthcare is one of Montanas largest comprehensive hospitals, serving the health care needs of people in a seven-county region. It remains today a part of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health System, which includes 11 hospitals in Kansas, California, Colorado and Montana. The other two Montana hospitals are St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings and Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City. St. James offers the people of Montana specialized services in Cardiology, Oncology, Orthopedics, Neurosciences, and Womens & Childrens services. It is a 100-bed facility staffed by more than 500 employees, all dedicated to the integration of tradition and technology.
