Modern Equipment Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of ALCO Industries. Established in 1919, the company manufactured hot metal transfer equipment, ladles, pouring devices, monorails, and trolleys. It moved to Port Washington, Wis., in 1920 and began manufacturing foundry cupolas for melting iron and skip chargers. By the 1950s the company was a leader in the field of designing, fabricating and installing high tonnage, water-cooled, hot blast cupolas. The 1960s saw it develop below charge off cupolas, high energy venturi-type cupola gas scrubbers, and related equipment in response to industry and government demands for improved control of particle and gaseous cupola emissions. Its products include inert gas generators, aluminum melting products, cupolas, molten metal handling solutions, spare parts, custom and HVAC tanks.

The Hill and Griffith Company encompasses five manufacturing facilities that support the metal casting industry of North America.
