Since 2001, Affordable Closets, based in Boulder, Colorado, has been a locally owned, family run business. By 2009, we had outgrown our small office and warehouse. We opened a showroom and gallery space in Central Boulder to better service our customers along the Front Range from Denver to Fort Collins and across Colorado. Craig hails from the originating family of the closet industry. His brother, Neil Balter built the first custom closets in 1978 and started California Closets. Craig was a Chiropractor then, and had minimal involvement with the family business. When an injury left him unable to continue working as a healer, Craig began designing custom storage spaces. Barbara says, "I believe the qualities that shined for Craig as a chiropractor are a major contributing factor as to how he relates to our customers. He is sensitive to their needs. You cant judge but only make suggestions that will improve the quality of life. As a designer, he assesses the situation, be it the number of shoes, jackets, purses, then creates designs that will be appropriate for the individual. Craig says, "Barbara had a successful career in broadcasting and communications. Barbara is also a life coach. She easily slipped into the dual roles of CEO and chief marketing manager for our growing business. Barbara obviously enjoys coaching people on what life can be like with organization and storage space in their living and working spaces." Charlie says, "Im a Special Projects manager and the warehouse organizer. In the future, Ill run this business, but only after becoming a Division 1 Athlete in basketball."
