Studio Metallum at the Torpedo Factory is the workplace and gallery of four artists: Barbro Eriksdotter Gendell, Gretchen Raber, Lisa Vershbow and Estelle Vernon. All four women are metalsmiths who use gold, silver and other metals (and even plastics) in contemporary jewelry designs as well as other small objects such as table sculpture.
The results are unique and varied. Eriksdotter Gendell created a miniature replica of the jewelry studio in anodized aluminum and silver; Vershbow, whose work currently is in the Madeleine Albright exhibition of brooches in the Smithsonian Castle, displays a collection of Russian style tea glasses with a modern twist. Texture is a distinctive focus in Vernon's work, an abstract collection of pins, earrings and rings. Raber, who is the original occupant of the studio, showcases a series of silver heart pins with gold accents.
Each artist takes a turn manning the studio, which is open daily.
