The United States National Cemetery Administration (NCA) honors veterans with final resting places in national shrines with tributes to commemorate their service. It is a division of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. NCA maintains more than 2 million gravesites at national cemeteries in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. There are more than 16,000 acres within established installations in NCA with the potential to provide more than 3.6 million gravesites. More than 8 million people visit national cemeteries maintained by the NCA. With a history dating back to the 1860s as the National Cemetery Systems, it became the National Cemetery Administration in 1998.
