The Institute for Population Studies is dedicated to raising public awareness on population issues and dwindling natural resources. It regularly examines the problems caused by urban sprawl and energy consumption, and tries to obtain funding towards research on population-related issues. The Institute also does what it can to facilitate widespread discussion on the problems caused by overpopulation.

Cal's campus police force includes 64 officers and more than 100 civilian and student employees. In addition to wrangling decades of student protest (the force now provides an online "Time, Place and Manner" tip sheet for prospective demonstrators), the police force runs preventive programs for student safety, including a BearWalk night escort program. It also maintains a daily online log of campus police activity, and, in cooperation with the city of Berkeley police, an online weekly crime map.
The City of Albany Maintenance Center is a part of the Public Works Department of Albany's city government. This office's thirteen staff members specialize in managing projects, including improvements to sewer systems, streets and storm drains. Its staff includes engineers, inspectors and maintenance workers.
The City of Berkeley Recreation Division oversees 52 parks throughout the city, which include swimming pools, athletic fields, basketball and tennis courts and playgrounds. It also offers summer camps, athletics and weekend activities for kids and teens.
