Established in 1988, Space Coast Marine Institute is a nonprofit educational and training center that serves youth at-risk. It is a moderate-security residential facility for boys between the ages of 14 and 18 who have committed crimes. The institute s students are referred by the Department of Juvenile Justice. Space Coast Marine Institute conducts classes in various courses, such as the Exceptional Student Education and GED Preparation program. The institute also offers a range of vocational courses in culinary arts, motors and electrical systems, and cleaning and maintenance of boats. Its facility features a dormitory that has more than 35 beds. In addition, Space Coast Marine Institute operates Mariners Club, which is a membership-based donation program.
