"Universal Heat Treating was founded in 1965 by Richard L Walter. It orginated as a salt bath heat treater specializing in tool steel. We were orginally located on Addison Rd in Cleveland, OH until 1976 when we moved to our current location on 3878 E. 93rd Street. Currently, Ernie DAmato, Richards son in law, who has been with UHT since 1977 is the President and CEO. In 1980, UHT expanded its plant by 6, 000 square feet to meet customer demand. The newly added space was used to house our Surface Combustion Atmospheric equipment. The expansion and new equipment allowed us to diversify our operations to include carburizing, carbo-nitriding and atmosphere alloy hardening. In 1990 we expanded once more and added Universal Black Oxiding. Universal Black Oxiding was formed to help our customers turnaround time for parts that needed heat treat followed by the black oxide finish. Also, in 1990 we added a vacuum furnace in order to heat treat tool steel in a controlled atmosphere. The vacuum furnace allows the tool steel to have a cleaner finish after the heat treat process. Our most recent expansion came in 1999, when we added 8, 000 sqaure feet to our plant. The new addition was used for our shipping and receiving department. This expansion also included a new fleet of trucks which allowed us to expand our footprint and save our customers time and money with pick-up and delivery services."
