Founded in 1924, the mission of Summit County Historical Society, a 501 ( c ), is to preserve and interpret history of Summit County and Akron, and to educate regional communities about the people and events that have shaped our rich history. The Society owns and manages several properties including the Perkins Stone Mansion, home of Akrons founding family ; John Brown House, home of the internationally recognized abolitionist ; and Old Stone School in downtown Akron - a partnership with Akron Public Schools. Two of the properties are open to visitors, the John Brown Home and the Perkins Stone Mansion. These properties are available for tours, educational programs, special events, and other mission appropriate uses. The John Brown Home and exhibit is open every fourth Thursday, May through October from 4: 00 pm to 6: 00 pm at no cost. Tours of the Perkins Stone Mansion are available BY APPOINTMENT ONLY Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 1: 00pm and 3: 00pm. Prices are $6 per adult, $4 for seniors, and free for children 6 and under. Please call 330.535.1120 to schedule your tour. As always, members of Summit County Historical Society may tour the property free of charge.
