It was done to help smaller businesses compete with big retail by allowing the smaller stores to buy in bulk and save money. This relationship with the community still exists today, as each ACE store is independently owned and operated by local entrepreneurs. Unlike the other big name home improvement establishments, ACE hardware is more intimate and personal. I was greeted as soon as I entered the store and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
