The geriatrics unit also includes social services professionals who work closely with older adult patients and their families.

The department has provided training programs to resident and student physicians for more than 50 years. A major affiliate of the New York Medical College, the Department of Medicine focuses on research, eduction, patient care and practice based learning.

Founded in 1892, Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester is the largest teaching hospital in Westchester County, servicing people in New York and Connecticut. Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester is a NYS designated area trauma center and stroke center, as well as a perinatal hospital with a level three neonatal intensive care unit.

The Volunteer Services Department at Sound Shore Medical Center of Westchester is located on the third floor of the main building. The hospital welcomes individuals interested in volunteering in various departments to assist the staff and enrich the overall experience for patients.

To be enrolled in the volunteer program, prospective volunteers must first schedule and an interview with the Director of Volunteer Services, complete medical clearance forms and attend a mandatory orientation. Younger volunteers, age 14 to 17, also are eligible to enroll with the written consent of a parent.
