Crate & Barrel made it's debut in 1962 when husband and wife founders Gordon and Carole Segal set up their business with their houseware finds from Europe. Aiming to remove the middleman, the couple hoped to offer fabulous designs at affordable pricing. In the 1980s, Crate & Barrel expanded to become a complete home store offering furniture in select stores. The name came from necessity -- due to lack of money for display shelves the goods were stacked on shipping crates and barrels.
Today, Crate & Barrel has more than 160 stores and is growing strong. The local Crate & Barrel is located at the Westfield Annapolis Mall with an exterior entrance in addition to access from within the mall. With 28,000 square feet of shopping space on two levels featuring a display balcony so you can picture the outdoor furniture on your own patio or deck.
