Operational for more than 35 years, Georgia Highlands College is a two-year unit of the University System of Georgia. It serves students in northwest Georgia and Alabama. The college conducts classes in science and physical education, math, health science, business, social science, humanities and extended learning. Founded in 1970 as Floyd Junior College, the college has an annual enrolment of more than 3,800 students in transfer and career academic programs. Georgia Highlands College operates additional sites in Cartersville, Acworth, Marietta and Carrollton counties in Georgia. It operates GHTV, a 24-hour, open-access cable television station that offers classes for multiple viewing by the students. It operates a more than 100,000-square-foot facility that houses a library and biology and physics labs and can accommodate about 2,000 students. Georgia Highlands College is located in Rome, Ga.
