The Shield Institute is a nonprofit organization that offers various educational, clinical and family support services to infants, children, adults and families throughout New York City. Located in Flushing, N.Y., the center educates and supports people with physical and mental disabilities and helps them come into the cultural, social and economic mainstream. It offers a variety of adult care programs, such as Article 16 Clinic, School-to-Work Transition, Medicaid Service Coordination, expressive arts, and group and supplemental day habilitation. Its group day habilitation program provides a variety of group and individual activities that enhance participants independence and encourage their full participation in the community. The Shield Institute is affiliated with the Jewish Board of Family and Childrens Services.
