The Lausd Venice Skill Center is a vocational school in Venice that offers programs for career training, academic classes and studying for the GED. There are classes in basic reading, basic language, web design, graphic design, medical terminology, finance and business, computer repair, early childhood education, dental assistance and many more programs for certification or diplomas in your desired field. It is low in cost and has open enrollment, allowing anyone to start any class at any time of the semester.
O-Mei Academy provides after-school elementary school level instruction in math, English and Chinese, along with chess, Kung Fu and Tai Chi. It also offers a summer camp program and classes for adults in kung fu, dance, yoga and fitness. O-Mei Academy maintains a second location in Milpitas.
Centro Latino offers weekly language classes and tutoring for Spanish and Portuguese. The classes vary in difficulty, including beginners, advanced beginners, low intermediate, intermediate and advanced. The facility also offers intensive classes that last between two and four weeks, as well as classes for children and teenagers. Please note that there is a 25 dollar materials fee that must be paid every three months. Aside from group classes, Centro Latino also provides private lessons for 50 dollars per hour.
El Marino Language School houses the Culver City Unified School District's two elementary school Language Immersion programs, the Spanish Immersion Program [SIP] and the Japanese Immersion Program [JIP]. The goal of both programs is for students to master their academic content while learning to speak, understand, read and write in both English and the target language – Spanish or Japanese. Students also have the opportunity to participate in many activities that will increase the experience of learning their target language, including Art Odyssey instruction, artists-in-residency, Japanese Taiko drumming and Spanish Flamenco dancing. Because of its unique curriculum, El Marino received the 2008 California Distinguished School honor.
Founded in 1979, the International School of The Peninsula is co-educational and educates students from pre-school through middle-school. Drawing on its core values of bilingual immersion education, curriculum integration and global citizenship, the school uses a French- and Mandarin Chinese language immersion program to educate students.
