The EBCLC is the largest provider of free legal services in the East Bay. The center is particularly concerned with ensuring fair access to the legal system for low-income individuals and for non-native English speakers. It also offers important experience in, and education about, the needs of poverty-stricken communities to UC law students. The Homeless Action Center offers professional legal services to homeless and mentally ill people throughout Alameda County. The Center provides assistance with supplemental security income, food stamps, Medi-Cal, social security disability insurance and cash-assistance programs for immigrants. The Center also staffs law student interns throughout the year who help to interview people and draft appellate briefs.
