The Towson Library is part of the Baltimore County Public Library organization. Its contemporary cement architecture was designed by Tatar & Kelly Architects. While the current building was constructed in 1974 and expanded in 1990, the library dates back to 1936. An exterior renovation of the building was completed in 1999. Serving residents of the county seat, the library offers an array of traditional programs and services for its diverse population and an ever-changing wealth of electronic resources for children and adults. The library also houses a collection of local historical maps and books for history buffs. New formats of material, such as videocassettes, compact discs and interactive computer software, have emerged. CD-ROM databases, microcomputers, electronic indices and access to the Internet are just a few of the services offered in addition to traditional library materials and services.
