South Jersey Gas provides regulated natural gas and delivery services to more than 313,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in southern New Jersey. The company, the principal subsidiary of South Jersey Industries, also sells natural gas to wholesale customers in the interstate market. South Jersey Gas serves residential, commercial, and industrial customers in Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, Salem, and significant portions of Gloucester, Burlington and Camden counties. The company s 5,441 miles of distribution and transmission lines encompass over 112 municipalities in southern New Jersey. South Jersey Gas roots trace back to 1873, when two Philadelphia businessmen formed the Atlantic City Gas & Water Company in Atlantic City, N.J. In 1947, the natural gas utility changed its name to South Jersey Gas Company and went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 1958. In 1969, South Jersey Industries was formed as a holding company to diversify from the regulated energy business.
