Head Games Salon for Hair & Body teamed up with The Landing Center for Healing Arts to bring Portlanders a unique experience in health & beauty that would impress even the most spa savvy Manhattanite ( minus the snob factor ; - ) Both Head Games and The Landing are committed to being green and will continue to look for ways to further reduce their carbon footprint. The Landing plans to launch their bike space this spring, complete with showers and lockers, to make it easy for people to choose to ride their bikes to work. Other eco-friendly practices include the use of ammonia free haircolor, formaldehyde free vegan nail lacquer, sulfate-free, and vegan hair care products. The Landing provides eco-friendly yoga mats, straps, blocks, and props for students, many made from 100% recycled material. We had to do a lot of research to stick to our commitment of being green while offering excellent services, explains Alanna Peterkin, owner & president of Head Games . We used sustainable cork flooring throughout & reclaimed materials from old pickle barrels for our custom built colour bar, reception desk & pedicure lounge. We utilized SpectraLights, the greenest lights available that save about 85% in electricity and bulbs last 20 years, reducing landfill. We installed The Freestylist Support System, the worlds first and only weightless blow-drying system because it also draws less power and extends the life of blow-dryers, which produce less waste. We are hoping to install solar hot water system soon, and of course we recycle almost EVERYTHING, even our clients hair! Which we ship off to be made into oil absorbing mats used to help clean up oil spills all over the world. All these factors contribute to reducing our carbon footprint, adds Peterkin. Other eco-friendly practices include a signature line of hair products called USE ME available soon, that are sulfate and paraben free, vegan and organically formulated. The line is bottled in BPA & EA free packaging, which can be replenished at the salons refill bar to reduce and reuse packaging.
