Del West Engineering was formed in 1973 as an aerospace structural materials R&D laboratory. Its clients grew to include NASA, the United States Air Force and Navy and the major U.S. aerospace firms, including Rockwell, Lockheed, McDonald Douglas and Boeing. The companys research into the use of titanium and aluminum alloys in led the company to produce an initial line of lightweight valves for racing engines in 1978. In the mid 1980s, Del West ceased its aerospace work, becoming wholly dedicated to the advancement of racing technology for clients which include virtually all of the engine manufacturers in Formula One, CART, the Indy Racing League and Indy Lights as well as for almost every manufacturer in touring car and GT/Prototype racing. Its customers also include countless private engine builders in NASCAR, drag racing and many other segments of the sport. Del West facilities encompass more than 80,000 square feet dedicated to state-of-the-art research, design and manufacturing.
