Established in 1896, Volunteers of America operates as a human services organization operating in over 400 communities in 46 states of the U.S. as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The nonprofit organization offers human service programs, such as housing and health care. In addition, Volunteers of America has supported and empowered Americas vulnerable groups, including youth, senior citizens, former prisoners, homeless individuals and families, people with disabilities and those recovering from addiction.
