Against the backdrop of the Calaveras hills, the Pioneer Mobile Home Park resembles a summer resort for retirees. Here, every resident is 55 years or older and pets are allowed. The clubhouse, open from 9am to 9pm, has a TV, Bingo tables, reading room, fireplace, and best of all, a pool with shower facilities. Grandchildren are allowed to visit and use the pool until 2pm, then the seniors take over.

Pioneer is a quiet residence consisting of 180 mobile homes and maintained by residents who work here as management staff. Security personnel are not needed as there is an active Neighborhood Watch.

Pioneer doubles as a precinct voting location. The Alameda County Library Bookmobile stops here to distribute books.

A mobile-home park for seniors, Mobilodge offers community and affordability. The central lodge is an A-frame two-story building with a TV, fireplace, book nook, billiard table and kitchen. It's not uncommon to wander in and find a group of residents playing mah-jongg or enjoying a dip in the pool. Residents own their own homes, but pay for the rental space and utilities. The asking price for a two-bedroom, two-bath mobile home on the market in 2010 was $160,000. To live at Mobilodge, you or your spouse must be 55 or older, with no dependents under 18 years of age.
